2 Forefront Emotions
Emotion might as well be the forefront of arguably all decisions in the world. Emotion influenced by the environment we live in, the people we love, the daily occurrences in our lives, all attribute to the growth or crumble of an individual. The supposed counterpart of emotion, logic, may just be just the cool and composed offspring of emotion. How bad could the heartbreaks of the struggles in the 21st century be if not for the simple element of emotion? A biochemical reaction of the prefrontal cortex that shaped the outcome of our society, yet it was a secondary in the chart of survival. Has the world become more compassionate or simply more stupid, letting feelings come in the way of clear and concise judgement. Sometimes I think that the world would be a better place if emotion had not obstructed the journey to a fully efficient world. How fairytale it would be for a fleeting second, just for a nightmare to unleash the wrath of a fully coordinated and mundane city. They would simply not want to continue, for the essence of life would forever and always will be, fulfilment and happiness.
Happiness is a wonderful thing. It makes u feel lighter than air, breathe the cleanest oxygen, and sometimes creates a beautiful memory for keepsake. When the topic of emotion is discussed, often the almost generic emotion of happiness is first to come to mind. However generic it may be, it may be the emotion most sought after. Fulfilment, pleasure, ease of mind; all feelings associated with happiness. Life has transformed into a cycle to look for the now never-elusive, dopamine rush. Teenagers increasingly engage in social activities, love relationships to look for satisfaction in others. While adults define their success with material goods that flaunt their social status with cars, houses and the degree of success in the workplace. Though they are not mutually exclusive, different categories of people would search for different streams to release their desired dopamine. Satisfaction derived from said happiness would motivates their goal and strengthens their pursuits. Hence, can any act of service be truly selfless. Nonetheless, happiness will always remain a beautiful thing that we strive for. To live with no regrets is to live a satisfactory life, an end goal we all strive for.
This takes us to the antagonist younger brother of the protagonist emotion named sadness. Sadness can mean many things, failure, loss, loneliness, the list might be longer than the aforementioned happy list. But why do so many attribute such negativity with sadness? It may be a rhetoric question yet the answer is shrouded in a fog of doubt thinking there is no point of thinking why sadness may be a considered the enemy of society. Human being for all of it’s existence has pushed for survival of its species. We crave social interactions with others and we have naturally become dependent on one another. Hence, once this crave has not been met, the brain sends a signal to look to satisfy these cravings. Thus, sadness could be a signal to invoke change. This can be applied to other scenarios for instance, the loss of a family member will lead to tears and sadness. Hence, letting yourself cry may be healthy invoking a realisation that your loved one is no longer present with you and slowly accepting it. Sadness, though not as popular as it’s older brother, is pertinent to growth of human society to develop and grow.
